We spoke to Alisha Khan, founder of Straight Up Skincare and personal stylist and editorial assistant at ASOS about skincare, blogging and her tips for starting out!
So, tell us what it was that made you want to start a blog? Were you inspired by working with other bloggers at ASOS?
Growing up with eczema it made me very aware of skincare from a young age. With forever doing extensive research, watching my diet and trying out a million different products, blogging was the perfect route for me to share my knowledge.
The first few months of starting a blog are always the toughest, how have you found starting out?
I don’t think I realised how tough it would be to balance working 9-5 weekdays, personal styling at the weekends and blogging! With a packed week I use any free time to put together a post – whether that’s on the train or during a lunch time. But writing about beauty is something I am really interested in so putting together a post is something that comes natural and as time goes on I hope blogging becomes part of my lifestyle!
Is there anything you would have done differently, or any advice you’d give to those out there hoping to start a blog of their own?
One thing I would have done differently would have been to invest in a good camera right off the bat, it became evident that having high res images to accompany my post was key! With so many amazing blogs out there I would say for anyone starting out to firstly, write about what you love and secondly, write from an angle that makes you stand out – be known for a particular writing style or feature.
What has been your favourite feature to write so far and why?!
My favourite features to write are the Beauty Insider posts. Everyone has their own tips & tricks when it comes to beauty and it’s always interesting to find out from the best in the business – look out for lots more of these to come!
Where do you see your blog in a year from now, and how do you plan to get there?
I would really like to delve into health and fitness on my blog. I am a total gym freak and over the years I have racked up some serious knowledge! In a year from now, I hope my blog is equal parts health, fitness and skincare based and full of lots of interesting features!
