Having your traffic slowly drop can make you feel really powerless, but it’s usually just down to a few little details, or the fact you’ve been neglecting something. Before having a major panic, just follow these steps and you should be able to pick things back up in no time!
Audit your site
We mean this in a very low-tech sense! No need to go too over board here, but it is totally essential that if your tracking is dropping you take a good hard look at your site! The amount of times I’ve seen that a blog is down and the blogger hasn’t realised is too many to count! Even if your blog isn’t down and all is well, you won’t make any progress with clawing back your following unless you’ve looked at your blog from an outsiders perspective.
Have you become a little lacklustre with your content ideas? Are your pictures looking slightly amateur? It’s easy to take your following for granted once you’ve got one- but if you’re not constantly keeping your standards up they will leave!
Revamp your Content
To be honest most bloggers should really do this quarterly anyway, and if it’s got to the point that your followers are leaving you then this is pretty urgent! Of course not every post has to be totally unique, but you do need to make sure your audience is entertained. Take a look at our article on click-bait headlines too. These can be a traffic saviour!
Ask your followers
There’s no one better to give you an idea of what you’re lacking then your very own readership. A survey can be a very simple and effective way of gauging at least a vague opinion! There are plenty of sites on which you can set up a short and sweet ‘what would you like to see more of?’ survey. Include a few options, and let your readership do the rest!
Work on Social media
Time-consuming though it is, social media can be a huge traffic driver in the blogging world. This doesn’t just mean tweet every time you have a new post- get stick right in there! Get involved in blog hours; ask your fellow readership questions- if possible try to run a competition. Using social media in the right way can really pull you out of a hole!
SEO
Search Engine Optimisation, the art of getting your blog ranked on Google search. If you can get your blog to rank on pages 1-3 on Google, you’re bound to see an increase in traffic! I won’t go too much in-depth here, as we have a few posts on SEO tips already!
