We’ll be blogging extensively about SEO and how you can optimise your blog over the next few months. One of the biggest requests we’ve had is for just a few clear top tips to get you started…so here they are!
- Page Titles
So often page titles are ignored- but they are invaluable when it comes to SEO. Format and layout are the first things to take note of. You need to make sure the titles are clear and easily readable by search engines, rather than long rambling sentences. For example if you have a post called ‘top beauty tips’ in your beauty tips section, make sure your page title looks something like this: Top Beauty Tips| Beauty Tips | Name of Your Blog. This way what you are talking about will be clear to search engines, making it easier for them to rank you.
You also want to try to get some relevant keywords into each page title, so depending on what you want to rank for make sure you use the relevant keywords.
- Keyword Research
Keyword research is incredibly important for SEO. Once you work out the kind of terms you’d like your blog to rank for, do some research into which keywords get the most traffic. For example if you are a travel blogger, wanting to rank for terms based around UK travel bloggers, you can use the Google Keyword Planner Tool to work out exactly which terms get traffic.
Remember it’s not always realistic to go for the most competitive terms! It might be impossible for you to rank for something as general as ‘UK Blog’, so try and go a little more specific with your research. Once you have your terms.
- Get some links!
This links to the above- when you do collaborate or do a guest post make sure you get a link back to your blog. Each link will count as vote in Google’s eyes and should help you move further up the rankings over time. However you can’t expect to see immediate result- this will take a lot of time and really results won’t being to show for around 3-6 months.
