If you have just started blogging, and are looking at other people’s blogs and thinking, what can I do to be as successful? Or maybe you are thinking about starting a blog as a New Year’s Resolution, and you aren’t sure what you need to do to get your blog noticed. Then don’t worry! We have listed some of the simplest little tricks you need to keep people coming back to your blog, and sharing it!
Usable Design
Design isn’t just about how pretty it looks, but also about how easy it is to use. For users to want to share your blog, they have to be able to be able to navigate around it easily. The best way to do this is to have a simple menu, if there are different sections of your blog then these should be easy to find. A search bar is always a really good feature to have so your readers can find a page easily.
Your own domain
Not only is having your own domain professional, but it also shows that you have taken a lot of time and energy in investing into your blog, and want it to be a success. As well as this, having your own domain also that your blog is an extension of yourself, rather than just a hobby. Owning your own domain does cost money, so this may be something that you want to do after you get into the swing of blogging, and know what you and your blog are about.
Great Social Media
This is how a lot of people find blogs- us included. If there are blog chats that we are interested in, we look to see who is getting involved in the discussion, we also look at who is following our favourite bloggers. I really love interior, food and lifestyle blogs so Pinterest is the place I always go to. If you have a strong Pinterest board and easily Pinnable images then your traffic will definitely go up!
A Unique Selling Point
Your blog needs to have something to set it aside from other blogs- sometimes blogs of a similar genre can all roll into one…. What do you have that sets you aside from everyone else? I read blogs who have a funny, quirkier style of writing, and ones who have fun with their images- using GIFs or editing them so they fit in more with their style. The most important thing to do is to make sure that your blog represents you, and not to water it down.
