3 Things That Could Be Hindering Your Progress

blogging tips

People always focus on how to proactively become successful, without actually auditing what they already do. It’s important to always look to the future and work to improve your process, but could you be hindering your progress with bad habits?

1.    Comparing Your Blog to Others

Do you think the blogging greats got to where they are now by constantly comparing themselves to others in their field?! No….me neither. It’s perfectly fine to search for inspiration in other blogs and let the success of others motivate you, but there is a line. Constant comparison in any line of work can be detrimental to success, but when it comes to blogging the effects can be far worse! It takes a lot of determination to keep your eyes on the prize and not be swayed by others, so as tempting as it is to try and work out how you compare to others in your field keep focusing on your individual goals.

2.   Sharing a Little Too Much on Social Media!

If you intend to take your blog all the way to the top, your social media output should be professional and considered from the outset. Personality and humour are great for social media; emotional outbursts are not so good.

If you are one of the many who are prone to tweeting before you think, try taking 30 minutes to think about something before you put it out there for the world to see- especially if you don’t have separate personal/blog twitter accounts! If brands are interested in working with you, the first place they’ll be looking after your blog is most likely your social profiles. Never post anything you wouldn’t be happy for your potential new partners to see.

3.    Expecting Too Much, Too Soon

I have bloggers getting in touch all the time, and most of you are fairly realistic about the time and effort it takes to reach the top of your game. But there are a few who seem to give up after 6 months because they’re not hitting the 5,000 follower mark! It takes time, and the worst thing you can do is get disheartened by numbers early on. Of course, if you’re not seeing some kind of gradual improvement as you move forward you might need to look into what you’re doing, but the fact is lots of time, patience, care and effort is the only way you’re going to make it. Keep creating great content and being social- you’ll get there!
