How Poor Spelling and Grammar Can Hurt Your Rankings!

dictionary

Bing have recently announced that online content producers will have to become far more mindful of spelling and grammar. Those who constantly produce content plagued with poor spelling and grammar could begin to see their rankings on the search engine drop.

As we all know, your rankings are incredibly important and can have a major impact on your page views. The fact that search engines are now taking into account the quality of each post, in terms of spelling and grammar, means that extra vigilance is needed. But of course, we wouldn’t be as dramatic as to say a couple of misplaced commas will see you drop off the face of the internet!

Although Google has previously mentioned that high quality content is always given preference to low quality content, Bing is the first search engine to cite spelling and grammar as key factors that determine your rankings. However, the head of web spam at Google, Matt Cutts, has recently mentioned that spelling and grammar do impact on a page’s ability to rank.

Essentially, the consensus is that if you consistently produce poor quality articles that have spelling and grammar below par, a site which has better quality content will naturally take precedence over yours in the rankings. Be as mindful as you can when proof reading your posts, as well as any guest posts that you accept!

Really glad to hear this. I read some blogs which might have interesting content I’d be interested in, but are shockingly written. In this day and age, it doesn’t take a lot to use the auto-proofread options which are around if you know you have an issue with spellings or grammar.

Absolutely agree with your Emma! Taking care over each and every post should be an essential part of a bloggers routine.
