3 Things Bloggers Could Learn from PR

Many bloggers work closely with PR’s and many more have thought about working in the industry, but do we take enough time thinking  about what we can learn from public relations experts? Here are a few PR musts that all bloggers could benefit from using.

Keep a Database if All Your Contacts

Create an actual database- don’t just update contacts on your phone! Create a spreadsheet with the social details of everyone you meet in a professional sense, as well as including a sentence on how you met them and any other contact details you have.

You never know when you might want to reconnect with these people, so don’t rely on your phone to keep all this valuable information.

Create a Yearly Calendar of All Events Relevant to your Blog

This might take a little while but it’s so helpful. Having a calendar of all national events and holidays will help you create new content ideas, plan any relevant events and get in touch with PR’s from relevant brands (using the contact spreadsheet mentioned in my previous point!).

Keep a Record of Anyone you Email

This is important for a number of reasons; firstly you need to keep track of who you have emailed so you can follow up if necessary. You also want to ensure you’re not pestering people, so if you’ve already emailed a fellow blogger or a brand a few times then keep a record and once you’ve reached the second or third email with no reply leave at least a 3 month break before making contact again.

So three quick tips for you there, and as you’ll notice they all involved being pretty organised! If you have any tips we would love to hear then, let us know what you think in the comments below.
