Making the Most of Instagram for Your Blog!

We have created a quick list of simple and quick tips that your blog needs to be successful on Instagram!

  1. Your Blog Deserves Its Own Account

This is a really important feature to include once your social media profiles start to build. An Instagram dedicated to exactly to what your blog is about- for example if you blog about interiors, your readers would be much more likely to follow an interior based Instagram, rather than one of you out with friends, with the occasional new sofa thrown in!

  1. Instagram Button

Instagram have released their own social media button which you can install on your blog, meaning that your readers can follow you instantly. If you don’t have any social media buttons on your blog at all you need to step up quickly and change that, they are so important to a blogs success!

  1. Hashtags

I’ll be the first to admit, I have a love/hate relationship with hashtags. I know that you need them to get people to see your posts, and be a part of a conversation, but nothing turns me off following a person on Instagram more than 50 different hashtags on one post. One or two are great, but not everything in your photo needs a hashtag! Also, remember you can also hashtag in comments; it doesn’t always need to be in the captions.

  1. Don’t Cross Pollinate

It’s no secret that Twitter and Instagram don’t get on, so uploading your Instagram’s to Twitter means that your audience has to go through another step if they want to see your photo, which is annoying. I spoke to our social media queen Katie, and she immediately said that your social profiles should be keep themselves to themselves- not only is it easier to track engagement, but it also means that your followers aren’t bombarded with the same images over and over again, which some may find annoying.

If you use WordPress, you can embed your IG pics on pages. I also use the AlpinePhotoPlugin to display my images (or others based on a #)
